Festival of Havoc 2013

The Festival of Havoc has begun!

The forces of Undermountain brought death down on the world in a rain of fire.  The world splintered and burnt.  Now they celebrate this sundering every year in hopes that the death of their enemies will bring about another cataclysm.

When felling an enemy in combat the following items have a chance to drop:
16% – charred flesh – sanc potion
16% – decaying apple – haste potion
16% – Light of Salvation – i2 light
16% – Sigil of Warcry – i2 dark
16% – Armor of Havoc – i2 chest
16% – Banner of Lies – decoy/tp pill
4% – Iteration Seal – iseal

Class Balance

  • Fencing now properly works but only works with a sword either in main or offhand.
  • Bind added to warriors, barbarians, and scouts.  This allows them to heal on the go.
  • Caltrops implemented to scouts.
  • Zealots and Geomancers implemented in a test status.

Code Changes

  • Dodge and Parry were completely reworked.  The old systems didn’t make a whole lot of sense and weren’t expansion friendly as new classes were added in to the game.
  • Character creation/race selection has been reworked slightly.  More work will be done here.

  • Divinity Hammer can now be disarmed.
  • Iteration-2 items have been added to the shop.

Server Migration

We moved to a new server with the same host today.  As such, the game is now accessible via telnet://www.actofwar.com port: 4000.

Yes, the port changed from 5000 to 4000.  Feels good to be back at “home”.

2/3/2013 – Patch

Areas

  • The Citadel is now accessible without fly.

Bug Fixes

  • Detect invis was added to a number of classes by accident.  It has been removed if it was not intentionally there.

Class Balance

  • Witches implemented to Undermountain.
  • Monks now hit harder with their fists.
  • Forage implemented to a number of classes.

Code Changes

  • Hunger/thirst reimplemented to pair with forage.
  • You can now practice to 90%.  Skill-ups beyond 90% only happen outside of town.  You can no longer bot inside town.

01/29/2013 – Act of War Update (4.0.1)

The MUD will be rebooted in the morning on 1/29/2013 to facilitate the following changes.

Areas

  • Oran has been re-implemented and the gear has been adjusted.

Bug Fixes

  • Temporalists will now load with proper skill sets.
  • Appraise will now properly work at quest, iteration, and gratitude shops.
  • Thief iteration items available for purchase in the iteration shop now has appropriate stats.
  • Bash works properly.
  • A number of advice messages were corrected.
  • Keywords for all humans were adjusted so “human” works.
  • Blight had an issue with rollout.  This has been resolved.

Scheduled Downtime

There will be scheduled downtime on January 31st from 2am to around 7am CST.  While the MUD will not be down for the duration of this time there may be issues with latency.  There will be a brief network disruption, after which the MUD will be down until 7am, CST.

Wiki Rolling Out

A number of changes have been made to the current code base to help fine tune the balancing. A lot has changed and we’re making an effort to document it all on our new wiki here!

Please let us know if we’re missing something that really needs to be documented. The end goal here is to allow both the administrators and the players to have a place to provide strategies, hints, and advice to players, both new and old.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a typographical error in frenzy.
  • Fixed a typographical error in the advice channels.

Class Balance

  • Decay previously did a 25% damage reduction and a 25% reflect.  It now does a 40% damage reduction and a 12.5% reflect.
  • Blight implemented to necromancers for 300 mana / room.  Blight effects the following spells: entangle, tremor, firestorm, and control weather.
  • Ghasts created using animate dead now properly die when “turn undead” is used on them.
  • The following spells had their damage changed:
    • Acid blast reduced from level(d)14 to level(d)13.
    • Chain lightning reduced from level(d)6 to level(d)5.
    • Demonfire reduced from level(d)14 to level(d)13.
    • Smite reduced from level(d)14 to level(d)13.
    • Acid breath reduced from level(d)18 to level(d)16.
    • Fire breath reduced from level(d)15 to level(d)14.
    • Frost breath reduced from level(d)17 to level(d)15.
    • Lightning breath reduced from level(d)20 to level(d)17.
  • Reflect was causing mages to dodge 5% more frequently.  This is no longer the case.
  • Steps movement rate was reduced from 50 moves per room to 25.
  • Traps now show up differently in rooms to players who can see them.
  • If a trap is set in a room it will not let you set a new trap until it has fully decayed.

1/14/2013 – Hotfix

Areas

  • Sorted out a few cross-load issues that were resulting in issues on MUD reboot.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a number of reset issues.

Class Balance

  • Monks have been rolled out to Kael and to Tier.
  • Hiptoss added to monks at level 35.  This skill will allow a monk to slide under an enemy, flip them around, and slam them into the ground.  There is a chance that the target will be knocked out of the room.

The Faces of Act of War

I’m working on putting together a collection of photos of the people who play here for old times sake.  We’ve had them before on some of the older websites but they’ve been lost to time.
